Heading out of Preston at 0830, we enjoyed a 26 miler to Lancaster, mostly along the Lancaster canal.

Wonderful views across farmland bordered by buttercups and cow parsley and through woodland carpeted with wild garlic, bluebells and hawthorn in bloom. We marvelled at the aquaducts built by the Victorians, carrying the canal over the various rivers that we crossed.

We spotted the Lancaster Castle from 2 miles outside the city. We met with supporters from Galloways and I was interviewed by BBC That’s Lancashire which was very welcome.
