It was a day of contrasts – skirting the picturesque Loch Ockie and then pushing on at pace alongside the Caledonian canal (no jumping brown trout today but several beautiful boats instead!) to Fort Augustus, followed by a testing climb around the western side of Loch Ness, descending into Invermoriston in early afternoon.
Stunning views of Ben Nevis and the distant Inverness from the highest point. I was happy to leave the bustle of the town behind and soak up the coolness and silence of the wonderfully ancient woods. We enjoyed the dry and breezy conditions but now forlornly looking at the rain forecasts for later this week.
