A steep climb out of Invermoriston followed by an undulating forest path strewn with pine needles making it wonderfully soft underfoot towards Drumnadrochit.

Glimpses of Loch Ness through the trees. Birdlife was surprisingly varied including pied wagtails, yellowhammers, greenfinches, coal tits and the ubiquitous chaffinch.

Rain began to fall lightly as a precursor to the biblical rain forecast for Thursday’s walk to Inverness.
