We set off early from the picturesque town of Donorch (last witch in Scotland burned there in 1727!), enjoying views across more flowering gorse and rhododendrons towards the sea, then skirting Loch Fleet and spotting a clutch of Harbour seals and the odd derelict castle.

The John O’Groats trail was disappointingly poorly maintained which made parts impassable so we resorted to a final hard and fast push up the A9 into Brora. Road signs to John O’Groats now appearing!
